 ABOUT THE CENTRE

Our Vision

"Craven Arms Community Centre will meet the needs of the community of Craven Arms and its surrounding hinterland. The Centre will take account of the diversity that exists within the town and develop activities that enable all groups to participate in community activity. The Centre will be known for its welcoming and friendly environment.

Our Aims

  • To make the Centre physically capable of facilitating a broad range of activities

  • To make the Centre a hive of activity and the centre for social interaction in the town

  • To give the community ownership of the Centre

  • To improve links and relations with local partners

  • To increase the Centre usage and move towards financial sustainability

Background

Craven Arms Community Centre is a registered charity located in the heart of the town of Craven Arms in South Shropshire. It is on the A49 main trunk road through the centre of the county, with good rail links. The Centre is set within the Craven Arms Playing Fields, which offer easy access to a number football pitches, a cricket pitch, Multi Use Hard Surface Sports Area, Children's Play Area and Skate Park.

The Centre first opened its doors to the community in October 1996. In 2008 it was extensively refurbished and extended .

Over the last couple of years the teams at the Community Centre and at the Secret Hills Discovery Centre have worked together to improve the services we offer to Craven Arms

With help from the then South Shropshire District Council and Shropshire County Council, we secured over a million pounds from Advantage West Midlands and the European Regional Development Fund to develop the two Centres in 2008 - 9

The two Centres work together in partnership to deliver projects and opportunities for the whole community.

Craven Arms Community Centre not only provides an excellent venue for activities: it also supports and develops activities in its own right - specifically in youth work, community development and community learning.

See our 'weekly activities', 'youth' and 'what's on' pages for further information.
